The `OLD HOUSE' is an early 19th Century Farmhouse at the end of farm buildings on a working farm between Llangurig and Rhayader. The cottage is set in the beautiful Dernol Valley and the surroundings are typical Welsh countryside. Many excellent and pleasant walks are possible directly from the cottage. Recently modernised, the beamed ground floor of the cottage is open plan, entered by a stable door, and character has been maintained with stone walls and a lovely big inglenook fireplace with original bread oven. Stairs lead up to a double bedroom, a small single bedroom and the bathroom.

Stables are available to those with horses. The Elan Valley Lakes lie to the west of Rhayader while to the north you will find Plynlimon (height 752m). From the top of Plynlimon you get great panoramic views of the surrounding countryside - on really bright days the Irish Sea and England are both visible. While on your way up Plynlimon why not visit the sources of both the Severn and Wye rivers? Llanidloes, Rhayader, Newtown, Welshpool and Machynlleth are the local towns and are great places for exploring the Welsh Heartlands. Aberystwyth is only 1 hour's drive from the cottage - giving access to the West-Wales coastline of Cardigan Bay, from Aberaeron in the south to Tywyn in the north. Further afield, to the north will be found the Berwyns - a remote mountain range which includes Lake Vymwy and to the south you can easily reach the famous Brecon Beacons.
