| The Red Kite |
The dramatic rescue of a red kite took place on New Years Day 2001, at Gigrin Farm, Rhayader.
Tony Cross - the Welsh Kite Trust project officer - was called in from his New Years day lunch to climb a large Oak tree from which hung a red kite!
The kite had been spotted by visitors to the kite feeding - Mr Andrew Beasley, his wife Mary, daughter Pippa and her boyfriend Chris live in Gloucestershire and made the 200 mile round trip to visit on New Year's day.
The bird had somehow become entangled in red plastic string and now hung precariously from a branch by it's left wing.
Tony climbed the tree, removed the string and after a quick examination brought the kite down to earth. The bird has now been transferred to the Red Kite Rehabilitation centre which as it happens is situated at Gigrin Farm.
As there was then a short time lag between my being alerted and Tony's arrival the video camera was brought into action.. screen grabs follow - Click any image to enlarge.
