Self Catering Farm House. Glanwye - New House Farm, Mid-Wales

Self Catering - Glanwye Farmhouse

Situated near the Elan Valley in Mid Wales, Glanwye overlooks the town of Rhayader and, from some rooms, the River Wye as it cascades down the rocky river bed.

With pretty furnishings throughout and a mix of antique and modern, the lounge has a wonderful wood burner in a stone surround (logs included), with beams and french doors to the garden.

Ideal for walking, the Wye Valley Walk is adjacent to the property and visitors are welcome to explore the 270 acre farm. Higher up the Elan Valley the mountains, dams and lakes provide breathtaking scenery.

Example image - aligned to the rightIf it's peace and tranquility you are after, it is to be found here. Should you find the need for a more active time then perhaps you would enjoy the cycle track around the Elan Valley with its dams and lakes.

The route is completely traffic free and can be enjoyed at any time of year. It is wonderful in the summer when the water levels may be low and you can see the rocks on the river beds, worn into spectacular shapes. Winter is the time to walk or cycle in the valley, with the waters in full flow and the hillsides alive with the music of streams. If you are here at the right time you will see the country transformed with frost, ice and snow.

The cottage is within walking distance of Rhayader, a small market town with its variety of quaint inns, most offering evening meals. A leisure centre with sports facilities and a swimming pool. The coast is only 34 miles away, or 30 miles via the most scenic route through Devil's Bridge to Aberystwyth. Both reservoir and river fishing are available locally. Cycles can be hired from Rhayader.

Glanwye is the perfect place to just sit and 'chill out' - you can watch buzzards and red kites from the lawn or, should you wish, take a walk to the kite feeding centre at Gigrin Farm.

The Elan Valley Visitor Centre (approx 2 miles from the cottage) is open throughout the summer and has a wealth of information about the area, its history and its wildlife, as well as a free film show and a very good cafe.

Come and breathe the pure air, gaze at the starlit sky, watch the shooting stars - things that are impossible to find in the cities and suburbs - you will not be disappointed.
