Gigrin supports a wide variety of animal and bird life... Tree Sparrow©

In addition to the red kite feeding operation we also have a 'small bird' feeding station. This is sponsored by CJ Wild Birdfoods, and has proved a great attraction to a variety of birds including Brambling, Yellow Hammers, Tree Sparrows, and Siskin.

The birds and other wildlife of this area are as rich and diverse as the habitats in which they live. Europe's most dense populations of buzzards and ravens occur here and of course there's the red kites! Other birds of prey include peregrine, goshawk, merlin and barn owl.

One of the many Buzzards to be seen here is dazzlingly white (sorry no photograph...yet) and, while it does not come down to feed, can usually can be found sitting on a favourite branch or fence post near to the Kite feeding station. If it, (he?), happens to fly across the feeding area it causes quite a commotion amongst the corvids. Perhaps they are mistaking the Buzzard for one of the Goshawks that often visit us.

Plump jackdaws, (they have found that the duck pond has a good supply of wheat), are one of the attractions for this powerful raptor.

Ponds for fish, ducks and frogs have been constructed, polecats are found here and evidence of otters has been found on the banks of what was previously our fishing pool!

If they make a habit of this we will have to do something about it, i.e. re-stock with a less costly fish than the rainbow and brown trout that currently inhabit this water!
The new wetland area will serve to add to the diversity of habitat available to the wildlife.

Living BritainBadgers have a number of setts on the farm, one of which is passed while on the nature trail, Water Voles inhabit our ponds and Polecats are resident.

The whole farm is now designated an environmentally sensitive area (ESA).
