Raptors, Rivers and Ravens
March: Still a few places left
“Raptors, Rivers and Ravens” - March 18th - 23rd
A five day holiday beginning on Sunday evening and running through to Friday morning.
Cost: £450.00 per personb> in rooms with a river view, £435 per person in other rooms. The cost includes transport for a day trip to the coast. 2 single rooms are still available which have basins in the rooms and share a bathroom.
March is an excellent time of year to watch birds of prey. Visiting vantage points in beautiful scenery we find red kites, buzzards and peregrines, kestrels and sparrowhawks engaged in breeding season behaviour and even the elusive goshawks are more in evidence at this time. Otters have increased in numbers locally and our walks by the local rivers will hopefully be rewarded by a sighting or two. We will also take a trip to the RSPB Reserve at Ynys Hir and visit the coast to find chough (transport provided), visit Gigrin Kite Feeding Centre and enjoy an exploration of our own reserve at The Cwm.
Accommodation is at Riverside Lodge, a warm and friendly 3 star guest house. As its name suggests, the property overlooks the River Elan so that mealtimes and relaxing in the lounge can be enjoyed with one eye on the river for a glimpse of a kingfisher, dipper or even an otter!

Wildlife of Kite Country
Europe’s most dense populations of buzzards and ravens occur here and the red kite is now once again a common sight. Other birds of prey include peregrine, goshawk, hen harrier, merlin and barn owl. Special among the upland birds are red grouse, short-eared owl, curlew, snipe and whinchat. Woodcock, pied flycatcher, redstart, wood warbler and tree pipit are plentiful in the woodlands and the rivers are home to goosander, common sandpiper, dipper, kingfisher and grey wagtail. While otters have made a comeback in recent years, and the area remains a stronghold of the polecat, more easily seen are the badgers and occasionally hares. In summer the hay meadows and wet rhos pastures abound with flowers to delight the eye heath spotted and butterfly orchids, eyebright, ragged robin and ivy-leaved be
Travel during all the breaks consists of a few short journeys to specific sites. Rather than add to the cost of your holiday by providing minibus transport we find people prefer to have the comfort and convenience of their own cars. However we are also happy to provide transport during a break for anyone wishing to come by public transport but do please let us know at the time of booking.
Costs include the services of the leader throughout the break, the stated number of nights accommodation, which includes evening dinner, bed and breakfast for each night and packed lunches.
